If you’ve read any of the rest of the website, you’ll know we’re running an extremely important fund-raising event to try to put the down payment on a property for Wee Paws.  We don’t know the full amount of the down payment, only that it will be between $25,000 and $40,000, and we need to come up with it before the end of next month.  We always planned to buy the property where Wee Paws has been run since its inception, but we never realized it would become such a matter of urgency.  For one thing, it could be bought by someone else, leaving us no place to go, if we don’t make a firm offer on it now.  We’re also now faced with being imminently evicted from the property if we don’t purchase it, because we’re not being allowed to continue to rent it (as we’ve done for the last decade).  The animals who live here are not animals who will be easily adopted or taken in by other rescues—the majority of them will need to be euthanized if we lose this facility.  If we can’t come up with a down payment, most of the animals we love and care for will die, and every animal we might have helped in the future will die as well. 

We are hoping to find between 2500 and 4000 generous, cat-loving souls who are willing to donate $10 each.  When all the donations are in we’ll have a computerized program draw out names of donors at random to receive a variety of thank-you gifts.  I’ve just started to work on this aspect of the donation program, but I guarantee we will give out at least 100 gifts, and that each will be worth a minimum of $10.  So far, we can offer coupons for free cases of cat food, coupons for free cat litter, a Drinkwell platinum fountain, fancy catnip toys, as well as lots of things unrelated to cats.  We have authentic 1958 Mickey Mantle baseball cards, Wilt Chamberlain’s rookie card, a Nap Lajoie card from 1939, newspaper clippings featuring photos of Ruth and Gehrig, dated in the 1930s (and in perfect condition). etc.  If you like hockey, we have Ken Dryden’s rookie card, a Patrick Roy autographed card, Sidney Crosby’s signature on a baseball cap, etc.  I’ll give away my autographed photo of the cast from “Sex and the City”.  We’ve got STUFF.  We’ll take the best of our stuff, make it into 100 different thank you gifts , and draw 100 winners random from among the people who donate $10.  I’ll ask for more corporate donations of pet products to give away, too, and if we get them, we’ll pass them out.  I will give you the shirt off my back if it means we can keep Wee Paws in business!
